Newport Whalers Travel Team Player Evaluation Update:
Due to multiple teams being away at tournaments during the initial tryout schedule—including the U12A and U14A teams, who have earned invitations to the New England Regional tournaments—we have revised the tryout schedule to better accommodate families and ensure a fair evaluation process.
We have worked with Boss Arena to adjust the tryout dates, moving them away from the weekend to maximize participation. Please find the updated schedule below:

Please note:
All players planning to play for the Newport Whalers next season must register for and attend the on-ice evaluation sessions. This registration can be completed on the Newport Whalers website or via this link before Sunday, March 9, 2025. A non refundable, non transferable season deposit fee of $100.00 must be paid at the time of registration for the onsite evaluations and will be applied to the player's overall season registration. If a player cannot attend all three tryout sessions, they must contact the appropriate Level Director in advance.

Evaluation and Team Selection Process Overview:
The evaluation process consists of three sessions for each age group, organized and executed by the Level Directors. The U8 age group will only have two sessions. Players will be assessed and ranked by impartial, unbiased evaluators based on the following criteria:
In addition to tryout evaluations, current-season coaches will provide player assessments. Both sets of data—tryout evaluations and coach assessments—will be used to determine team placement.
Team selections will be finalized and announced as soon as possible following the tryouts.
Season Commitment and Registration:
Once rosters are released, players will have seven (7) days to confirm their roster spot by registering for the 2025-2026 season and completing an initial payment. Season registration can be completed through the Newport Whalers website and will be opened after the on-ice evaluation process starts.
After seven (7) days, any roster spot not secured by season registration will be considered open, and adjustments may be made to complete the team rosters.
Travel Team Program Fees (2025-2026):
Travel Goalies: Full-time travel goalies pay 50% of the above fees.
Family Discount: If you are registering more than one player in your family this season, you will receive a 10% discount on the third (and fourth, etc., if applicable) child's registration fee. To ensure the registration system recognizes multiple players from the same family, please register all players at the same time. On the Review Page, there is a link near the bottom to "Register Another Player." Click this link to ensure all family members are registered in the same order.
A 2025/2026 USA Hockey number will be required for the upcoming season registration.

* Mite, Squirt & PeeWee fees listed above do not include the deposit already collected at spring tryouts. Travel goalies pay 50% of the above posted rates.
If the participant did not attend Spring tryouts, please add the $200 non-tryout participant fee when registering for Mites, Squirts PeeWees, or Bantams; $100 for Goalies.
